Chapter 110: Fourth Arc [8]

The elevator went up, reaching the 4th floor. Lin Weiqi excitedly stepped out, heading towards room 401, only to find it empty.

"Where is the patient who was in here?" Lin Weiqi asked the nurse at the station across the hall.

Every staff member at this sanatorium knew about Lin Weiqi and the patient in this room. Which girl wouldn't be moved by such a handsome, wealthy, and devoted man?

So when the nurse saw Lin Weiqi now, her heart stirred with sympathy and sorrow as she told him what just happened.

That woman had been rushed to the emergency room, but from the looks of it, chances of saving her were slim. A vegetative person already has weak immunity and poor health, and she’d been lying there for ten years. The person who tried to kill her must have made sure nothing could go wrong—what was injected was definitely a deadly poison…

Lin Weiqi felt the world spin. For a moment, his mind went blank. Despair and pain surged up so hard that even his heart began to ache.

His body swayed, and the things he was holding fell to the ground. A seemingly ordinary knife clattered the polished floor, and a crisp, cold sound rang out—cling clang—cutting through the mental fog of his emotional collapse.

His mind cleared instantly. He gripped the medicinal pill in his hand and rushed towards the emergency room. There was still a chance, there was still a chance. He had a miraculous encounter today—Heaven wouldn’t be so cruel to him…

"Open the door, let me in!"

He pounded hard on the door. A caregiver nearby had red-rimmed eyes and looked filled with guilt, wanting to step forward but not daring to.

"Mr. Lin, Mr. Lin, the patient is being resuscitated…" The emergency room door opened, and a male nurse came out.

Lin Weiqi's eyes were bloodshot. Clutching the Rejuvenation Pill tightly, he shoved the male nurse aside and rushed into the ER.

Inside, the doctor had stopped his work. He hadn't even had time to operate, she had already lost all vital signs. The electrocardiogram (ECG) drew a long, straight line.

Knowing how important this patient was to Lin Weiqi—and to other victims’ families—they couldn't help but feel depressed.

Just then, they heard the commotion and turned to see Lin Weiqi barging in.

"Mr. Lin…"

Lin Weiqi gasped for breath, looking at the ECG, his eyes filled with unwillingness. He rushed forward, pushed the doctor aside, pried open the woman's mouth, and shoved the pill in. Realizing she couldn't swallow, he quickly grabbed a bottle of water from the side and roughly poured it in.

Come back to life—damn it—come back!

He didn't know if it had gone down. A lot of water spilled from the woman's mouth, soaking her entire face and hair.

The people in the operating room exchanged glances, hesitating whether to step forward and stop him. A female nurse couldn’t take it anymore, she covered her mouth and began to cry. It was too tragic…

The entire bottle of water was emptied. Lin Weiqi panted heavily, staring at the woman's face intently. The long straight line on the ECG next to his ear was still making a long piercing sound.

One second, two seconds, three seconds…

No movement.

"Mr. Lin…" A doctor called out cautiously, reaching out to touch his shoulder.

Lin Weiqi ignored him.

Six seconds… seven seconds… nine seconds… ten seconds…

Still no movement.

No…

Lin Weiqi's eyes reddened. Hugging his head, he slowly sank to the floor and broke down in painful sobs.

The others in the operating room didn't know what to do. No one could truly empathize with his pain, so how could they say meaningless words like–It's okay?

Suddenly, the straight line on the ECG gave a twitch.

The doctors were sensitive to this sound and immediately turned to look at the ECG.

The line jumped slightly, then jumped again, and then began to form the rhythmic curve of a living person’s heartbeat.

“Oh my God…” gasps of shock filled the room.

Not only did the ECG return to normal, but the vegetative woman, who had been lying there for ten years, slowly opened her eyes…

……

Song Juyao looked at the man in front of her.

Hai Yuchen glanced at the extra items now on the table, most likely more things his grandfather had spent a fortune to draw again. Thinking about how this person used the most painful memory of his brother to trick him, rage made his head spin.

Of course, he wasn't really dizzy. As the head of the Changhai Group, he had strong control over his emotions. So, he suppressed his anger, showing no sign of it on his face.

"Is it okay? You just drew for Lin Weiqi, didn't you?" Hai Yuchen said, ignoring his family's winks and reminders.

“Why not? Didn’t you just do a card draw for Lin Weiqi?” Hai Yuchen said, ignoring the frantic eye signals and warnings from his family.

【Hahahaha, here comes another one】

【Waiting for the truth to come out hahahaha】

【Get ready to have your worldview shattered!】

【Oh, hehehehehe, I'm getting excited again. Watching people draw cards is so much fun. Song Juyao is so smart and interesting!】

【Draw, draw, draw—let him draw! Let that calm, handsome face crack!】

Song Juyao: "Of course, it's possible. It's just that your core card hasn't appeared in my card pool, so the chances of winning are very low."

"What is a core card?" Hai Yuchen wanted to see how ingenious this con artist's card-drawing scheme was, that it could fool so many people.

Song Juyao: "A core card is a card born in my card pool from a person's intense, extreme desire, which is transformed into energy."

"Is that so? Then I suppose your card pool must include the core cards of half the world's population." He said sarcastically. Having so many people's core cards, yet repeatedly fleecing their family, how very kind of her. As if she ever considered whether such a setup was even reasonable.

"Only people within my range of activity will have cards generated in my card pool." Song Juyao replied kindly, still in good temper.

Hai Yuchen: "Good, I'd like to see what I draw."

He wanted to see how she would perform. Since she dared to enter the Hai family, she shouldn't think she could leave easily. The only place she could go was the police station.

Song Juyao did as he wished. The small wooden stick moved gently, and a ball of light appeared.

Hai Yuchen was calmer than Lin Weiqi. He snorted inwardly, certain that Song Juyao had hidden a projector somewhere. He also believed that the cards flying out of the ball of light were a deceptive trick. Even if it was happening right before his eyes, and he could touch it, he would not believe it.

A skilled magician can perform tricks right under your eyes too, right? The audience gasps in awe, but it’s all just smoke and mirrors, carefully planned in advance.

He reached out to flip over the cards.

The first card was blank. The card disappeared in his hand. He was stunned for a moment, but didn't take it seriously.

The second card was also blank.

The third card was another blank card.

The fourth, fifth, sixth… ninth cards were all blank.

Hai Yuchen became even more certain that Song Juyao was a con artist who must have run out of props and had nothing left to trick him with.

His family, on the other hand, were already looking at him with pained expressions. Even his grandfather had a look of pity mixed with disgust. It turned out there was no most non-English, only more non-English. Hai Yuchen, their own son, was an African! Oh God, he was an African! They absolutely couldn't let him help draw cards, absolutely never!

The last card. Hai Yuchen flipped it over with a calm mindset.

Finally, mysterious patterns and characters appeared on the transparent card.

Song Juyao: "Congratulations, you have drawn an SR card, a Corgi Transformation Card Copy, a one-time use item. You can transform into a divine dog with a sense of smell a thousand times more sensitive than ordinary dogs, for a limited time of 60 minutes."

Hai Yuchen: ???

Hai Yuchen's expression changed slightly. He felt that Song Juyao was humiliating him. However, the next moment, the card turned into white light and shot into his body.

Instantly, his entire body felt like it was on fire. His vision blurred. When it cleared again, his perspective had completely changed. His family members were standing above him, looking down at him with strange expressions.

He was stunned. He looked down and saw his furry little paws. Even more terrifying, he saw a blurry dog head reflected on the smooth floor… it looked like a Corgi.

…W-what? A hallucination? Yes, it must be a hallucination. This can’t possibly be real.

"What's going on?" The Corgi spoke in a human voice, a deep, cold voice that sounded like a cool, handsome man, though if one listened carefully, it wouldn't be hard to hear the underlying panic and shakiness.

The next moment, he was picked up. His mother, Wen Xi, looked at him with sparkling eyes. "Son, you're so cute like this!"

But it was much cuter than the way he was precocious at a young age and never acted spoiled or cuddled to her!

The Hai family, who now completely trusted Song Juyao's cards, weren’t the least bit bothered by their son turning into a dog. After all, it was only for an hour.

Wen Xi held him in her arms, and Hai Yuchen's entire… no, the entire dog instantly felt his scalp tingle, his fur standing on end.

"Let go of me!" He struggled violently.

"My son is so cute, let Mommy hug you a bit!"

"Let go of me, let go of me!!" His calm demeanor began to crumble.

But then—the real nightmare began. The rest of the family gathered around, excitedly reaching out to pet his fur, squishing his paws with great interest. His dad, Hai Chao, even tried to scratch his chin.

Hai Yuchen's entire being collapsed to the point of spiraling into heaven.

As he violently struggled, he spotted Song Juyao. The unknown being stood there, wrapped in a black robe, looking mysterious. Only a vague outline of the face could be seen in the shadows. It seemed like she was looking at him. She looked like a walking fog, a living abyss.

Suddenly, his heart raced, and a sense of fear rose from the soles of his feet. He realized that all of this was real. There was no con artist, no trickery! This was not a being he could mess with. Was this dog transformation card really something he drew? Or was it a punishment for him?

【Hahahahahaha I can practically hear Hai Yuchen's inner scream】

【This is shame execution on a whole new level, omg hahaha】

【Hahahahahaha…. I'm dying! I can see a look of utter despair on that corgi's face】

【Hahahaha, Yaoyao is too cute! So bad! I love her!】

【Serves him right for not believing! Our Overlord Song isn’t that good-tempered, you know!】

Hai Yuchen struggled so much that he resembled a cat cornered in a desperate situation. He was very strong, and Wen Xi ultimately couldn't hold him. He broke free from her grasp. As soon as Hai Yuchen landed, he stepped on his four short legs, wiggled his sexy furry butt, and ran away quickly to hide under the coffee table. His alert ears stood upright, and his big eyes were extremely alert.

Just then, the pile of clothes that had fallen to the ground when he turned into a dog made a sound. It was the sound of his phone.

Hai Chao bent down to help his son pick up the phone and said, "It's Xiao Wei."

Hai Chao answered the phone and put it on speaker. They heard Lin Weiqi's excited, tearful voice. “Ah Chen! Ah Chen! That woman woke up! She woke up! Is the deity still there? Thank you—thank you so much!”

In Lin Weiqi’s heart, it didn’t matter whether Song Juyao was a demon, a death god, or something else entirely. From this day on, she was his god—his faith! When he was drowning in despair, not a single god or ghost responded to his prayers, only her.
