The National Girl is Three and a Half Years Old Chapters List

Chapter 4: Day 4 of Raising the Nation’s Little Darling

Gu Suisui's first day of filming went surprisingly smoothly. Aside from a couple of initial NGs due to her unfamiliarity with the camera's position, the shoot progressed without a hitch.

"Cut! Makeup team, touch-ups! We're moving on to the next scene."

"This little girl playing the fallen princess has a certain aura about her. Old Li, you picked well this time," Director Chen commented with satisfaction, observing the footage.

It was difficult to assess acting skills in a child so young. What mattered most was the feeling they conveyed to the audience. Compared to technically proficient acting, renowned directors like Chen preferred natural, unpretentious performances.

Given the complexity of the fallen princess's final scene, Director Chen had considered whether to find an older child to play this role. However, he now realized that this age was perfect. The naivety and innocence that Gu Suisui exuded were impossible to replicate in older children.

Gu Suisui didn't know that Director Chen of the "Dormant" crew was very satisfied with her. She only knew that she could see little brothers and sisters when filming here, with plenty of food, drinks and people to take care of her.

If she could, she would come here every day.

During the break, Lu Chi watched his on-screen "sister" devour snacks with a content expression, a smile flashed in his eyes.

–The snacks on the table were bought by his assistant on purpose.

While he wasn't hungry himself, watching the little children enjoy them brought him a different kind of satisfaction.

Lu Chi was in a good mood and asked with a smile: "Is it delicious?"

Gu Suisui nodded like pounding garlic: "Delicious!" It's so delicious!

It's so happy to be a human, you have three meals a day and every day there is delicious food (/≧▽≦/)~

Lu Chi: "If it's delicious, eat more. You don't need to save money for your brother."

Lu Chi had anticipated numerous NGs throughout the day, but the shoot had been surprisingly smooth. Not only would they finish on time, but they might even wrap up and be able to go back to the hotel to rest earlier.

He owed it all to this lovely little sister. He didn't expect that she looked young, but she was quite professional.

Sensing his gaze, the "professional" Gu Suisui flashed him a bright, toothed smile. In her eyes, this brother Lu Chi was second only to her mother in importance.

The worldview of the little marshmallow was so simple and crude, whoever treated her well was a good person.

The next scene involved a heartwarming interaction between the princess and the prince played by Lu Chi. After all, Gu Suisui was not an ordinary three-year-old child. With the help of the staff, she was able to pass the lines in just one take.

However, Director Chen, aiming for perfection, insisted on several more takes before calling it a wrap.

At five in the afternoon, after Gu Suisui finished shooting today, Feng Yaoqin arrived to pick up her daughter on time.

"...A pretty older sister gave me candy today, and an older brother who was filming with me bought me lots of delicious food!" The little marshmallow, who was filming for the first time, was obviously very excited and kept talking about her experience.

Feng Yaoqin's anxieties dissipated as she saw that her daughter was well-adjusted to the filming environment, didn't suffer any grievances and behaved well.

When her daughter was a children's clothing model in the past, she, the mother, was with her every time she shot, but today she was alone. Although she asked Brother Li to take care of her, she was still very worried, afraid that something would happen to the child.

"Mama, here's a White Rabbit candy for you. You've worked hard to come pick me up today." Gu Suisui said, offering a precious candy she had saved to the woman in front of her.

She was good to her, so she had to be good to her too.

This was the principle of life that Peach Blossom spirit sister taught her. What was it called again? Gratitude!

Yes, gratitude!

Whatever delicious food she had in the future, she would leave a portion of her treats for her mother.

Looking at the candy that was about to melt in her hand, Feng Yaoqin was stunned for a moment, and her eyes gradually became moist.

As an unmarried mother, abandoned by the father shortly after Gu Suisui's birth, she had faced immense hardship raising her daughter alone. Resentment had, at times, crept into her heart.

Feng Yaoqin even thought that if she didn't have this child, she might not have to live so hard alone.

However, she could never bring herself to abandon the child she had carried for ten months. Even during their most difficult times, she couldn't be cruel enough to really throw her daughter to an orphanage.

Until later, Gu Suisui was noticed on the street because of her outstanding appearance and became a children's clothing model. The lives of the mother and daughter became better day by day.

Over the past few months, Feng Yaoqin had been ignoring the fact that her daughter had to take on the responsibility of supporting the family at the age of three. She told herself it was for the good of her daughter, a path to a brighter future. But today, she was suddenly touched by her daughter's heartwarming little action. Those suppressed emotions suddenly surged into her heart, making her breathless.

Feng Yaoqin hugged her daughter tightly and said guiltily: "Suisui, Mama is so sorry. Mom is sorry for making you work at such a young age. It's mom who is useless and can't give you a better life..."

I'm not a responsible and good mother.

Confused, Gu Suisui didn't understand why she apologized, but she still learned the way her Tree Demon spirit sister used to comfort her. She gently patted Feng Yaoqin's back, and coaxed her in her soft and soothing voice: "Don't cry, don't cry, you won't be beautiful if you cry."
